Turning one long video into 20 shorts with Opus Clip

What the auto-clipping gets right, what it gets wrong, and the manual fixes worth doing every time.

Tools mentioned in this video

7.7/10

Opus Clip

Turns a long video into a pile of captioned shorts fast. Users typically post about a third of them.

8.1/10

Descript

The fastest route to a cut talking-head or narrated video, by most accounts. Heavy projects still make it wheeze.

What the video covers

Opus Clip finds the moments. It does not know which moments are good. Users of the tool commonly describe about a third of its picks as usable as-is, another third as fine after trimming the opening seconds, and the rest cut mid-sentence.

The captions are the strongest feature. They are accurate, styled sensibly, and export cleanly. The hook text on each clip still needs a human rewrite, because that line decides whether anyone watches past second one.

If you already edit in Descript, the round trip is awkward. The video shows the order of operations that wastes the least time.
