KDP keyword checker
Can this keyword actually rank?
Type a phrase a reader would search on Amazon. You get the number of competing titles, how established the current top 10 is, whether the phrase carries buyer intent, and a verdict: winnable under 2,000 competing titles with a weak top 10, crowded, or avoid. Everything is read from a cache refreshed on a schedule, so a phrase nobody has checked before is queued rather than fetched live. Checking needs an account: a 3-day full-access trial on sign-up, no card, then $9 / month. The calculators stay free without one.

How the verdict is made
- Competing titles is Amazon's own count on the Books results page. Under 2,000 is the sweet spot; over 10,000 is a head term you will not outrank.
- Top-10 strength looks at ratings counts on the organic top 10: strong when 5 or more have 500+ ratings, moderate at 100+, weak otherwise.
- Buyer intent is a phrase that names a format, such as book, novel, workbook or planner. Those searches convert; bare topic searches often do not.
- Trend is Google Trends web-search interest in the US: the last 13 weeks against the same 13 weeks a year earlier, so a seasonal dip does not count as decline. Beyond 20% either way is rising or falling. Sparse niche phrases show as too little data. A falling trend drops a phrase to avoid regardless of the rest. Search volume will come from Google Keyword Planner and shows as not collected until that access lands.
- Keywords control discoverability, not conversion. A winnable phrase puts a book in front of readers; the cover, title, blurb and price decide whether they buy. Pick the shelf with the category finder and size the book with the KDP cover calculator.
